THE COCOON
Long Island,NY,2019

Cocoon is half opaque and curved house facing its neighbors to the north and west, and half crystalline and transparent facing the east and south.

The solar house is LEED certified, using local building materials, as well as passive heating and cooling strategies.

The rounded enclosed half of the house provides shelter and privacy. The other glass side of the house, facing south, takes in ocean breezes and open views. The cedar shingle cladding blends in with the architectural material palette of the historic neighborhood. By tuning in to given site conditions, and with the help of environmental technologies such as photovoltaic panels, the architectural design serves both the environment and wellbeing.

Cocoon has been widely published in architectural design magazines, including a feature on the cover of the New York Times Design section.
