extension folly
Long Island, NY  2021

This project extends a traditional house in Long Island with 2-story tower in the southwestern corner. The proposed addition preserves the style of the original design by the renowned architect Stanford White: traditional wood construction, colors and materials that are coherent with the existing building. At the same time, modern computational technology ensures the best illumination for reflecting and interior lighting. The first floor comprises an intimate living space complemented by a fireplace, bar, reading nook, home office and game table. The sun angles are calculated and the space is designed so that the morning sun floods the reading nook and the evening sun reflects in the mirrored walls of the bar nook. The second floor consists of a children’s’ playroom with a conical roof.
